Litigation, Arbitration, Mediation and Dispute Resolution

We do a lot of litigation which is our major focus. Litigation at Central Chambers is undertaken at all levels of the Singapore Court structure and in almost all aspects of civil and criminal litigation. The litigation practitioners thrive on the daily cut and thrust of Court work.

Similarly, alternative dispute resolution by arbitration and mediation are also related areas of litigation practice frequently undertaken. Mediation is in keeping with the Court’s current guiding philosophy of resolving disputes without trials.

We will advise our clients very comprehensively on choosing litigation or other alternative dispute resolution.

Corporate Practice

The Corporate Practice, another major area of our expertise, supports both the public and private sectors. Here, the practitioners represent Statutory Boards, government agencies, local and foreign organisations. They are principally involved in:

1. Advising on diverse areas of corporate ventures and complex arrangements.
2. Advising major Statutory Boards in their commercial arrangements and contracts; and
3. Drafting complex documentation when these agencies become stakeholders in projects.

There is regular involvement in the legal aspects of setting up investment funds and fund management. We work within public sector investment culture observing closely, their conservative approach and risk appetite.

Corporate Secretarial

Flowing from the main Corporate Practice (described earlier), aspects of corporate secretarial services manage the existence and thereafter, the fortunes of companies and other corporate forms.

The on-going corporate secretarial services often become a regular feature for the hundreds of companies we service in Singapore and the foreign organisations we act for. These services include maintaining statutory books and records, preparing resolutions, filing returns with the relevant authorities. By and large, we assist these companies with keeping to corporate statutory compliances as they grow their businesses.

Family Law

This area of family matters calls for sensitivity and compassion and we have just the right practitioners with the right personality here. Those practising family and matrimonial law matters involve themselves in the often connected areas of probate and inheritance law. This culminates in our providing family law expertise at almost all levels.

As an added feature, these practitioners conduct talks and seminars whenever requested to do so. Frequent subjects delivered are on wills, succession, divorce and aspects of personal protection which may be necessary in certain situations. 

Insolvency & Restructuring

The practitioners in this department are involved in varied aspects of insolvency practice and managing debt restructuring matters with other insolvency practitioners in the wider industry. Issues of insolvency often arise in matters of personal and commercial/corporate litigation.

Insurance/Personal Injury

Provision for insurance coverage is now an unavoidable business and commercial aspect of liability management. A fair majority of the civil litigation matters in the State Courts arise from insurance related matters. Compulsory insurance schemes for road traffic accident matters and work injury compensation claims are by and large, matters that concern everyone. 

Professional indemnity insurance is often expected and in some cases, compulsory such as the Legal Profession and other industries. 

Overall, Central Chambers possess the expertise to provide all-rounded advice as we act for major insurance companies. The team also represents individual persons/entities in making claims.

Real Estate

We do a lot of real estate and MCST related matters. Major developers work with our conveyancing practitioners admitted into the panel of the Central Provident Fund Board and the major banks. Retail conveyancing in sale and of property is carried out on large scales.

We advise on issues of en bloc, real estate related matters like financing and Management Corporation issues. In the case of national construction projects, the practitioners have advised government agencies and acted in land alienation issues.

The practitioners here also act on and advise on management of estates and MCST matters for condominiums.

Intellectual Property

The commercial world constantly works to better secure copyright, trademarks, and patents in the face of business challenges and threats to technologies. Central Chambers has enabled companies and organisations to protect their intellectual property rights and thereafter, proceed to commercially exploit these assets and resources through licensing and sub-licensing arrangements.

Our work in the start-up ecosystem is another area of the IP services provided to the funds. Our practitioners have advised and managed for various government agencies, the different aspects of intellectual property protection. We work with the appropriate service providers where necessary to do so. 

Government Support Services

Supporting the public sector came naturally as some of our lawyers are former civil servants. For 2 decades, Central Chambers built and established excellent working relationships with the public sector. The areas of support are predominantly in-house advisory, structuring projects, legal documentation and drafting for the various government agencies.

We were involved in major national projects for over 2 decades. In cases where potential litigation is anticipated, written legal opinions are rendered bearing in mind, the public sector’s slant towards avoidance of court litigation. There is internally, a prevailing awareness of the general culture of the public sector.

Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths

We provide notarisation and commissioning services. This includes submitting documents at the Singapore Academy of Law for authentication and if specifically required, arranging for the documents to be consularised by the relevant Embassy or High Commission where the documents are to be used.

We are also able to provide off-site attendance by our Notary Public and Commissioner for at your preferred location, if requested. We also accommodate urgent appointments (additional rates apply).
